The Suspended Myth
The Artemis & Orion table is a deeply narrative work, where furniture becomes the medium for an ancient tragedy. It captures the moment when the hunter Orion’s fate is sealed under the gaze of the goddess Artemis, through a play of textures and light that evokes the vastness of the cosmos.
The Concept: This piece is inspired by the myth of Orion, the giant hunter transformed into a constellation. It acts as a direct echo to the Scorpio piece (the scorpion sent to defeat him). The idea is to represent the tension between human power and divine will through lines of force that intersect on a mineral horizon, like a stellar map engraved for eternity.
The Materials: The tabletop is carved from starred metamorphic shale stone, its natural inclusions recalling stardust. It hosts a dialogue between two noble metals: engraved aquatinted bronze (representing the strength and timeless brilliance of Artemis) and engraved maillechort (evoking the cold, nocturnal glow of Orion).
The Craftsmanship: The complexity of this table lies in the interlacing of the bronze and maillechort inlays. Each metallic stroke is etched using the aquatint technique to create a surface vibration that catches the light differently throughout the day. Integrating these massive alloys into the stone requires perfect mastery of marquetry, making each top a unique masterpiece.
The Vision: Artemis & Orion is a monumental reception table. Through the use of bronze and shale, it becomes the gravitational centre of an interior—an invitation to contemplate the infinite while remaining grounded in the nobility of terrestrial matter.
