Pegasi
Lighting Sculpture
Massive aeronautical alloy sulpted.
Fossiliosed black wood stone of twenty million years natural
Edition: Unique piece.
Light of the Deep Time
Pegasi is a lighting sculpture that defies time—a convergence of Earth’s mineral memory and the high-tech precision of human engineering. Derived from the Hittite mythology “Pihassassa,” meaning “lightning,” this work stands as a vessel of light and power.
The Concept: Pegasi is a meditation on permanence. It unites a twenty-million-year-old piece of fossilised wood with a precious metal alloy specifically engineered for aeronautical technology. It is a modern totem, evoking the raw energy of thunderbolts, where light appears to surge from ancestral matter.
The Materials: The heart of the sculpture is a fragment of black fossilised wood—a wooden stone whose golden reflections are entirely natural, a geological magic frozen for aeons. It is cradled within a massive aeronautical alloy, hand-sculpted to provide an architectural and futuristic radiance.
The Craftsmanship: Emmanuel Jonckers employs “direct carving” on the massive alloy, a demanding process that requires absolute mastery of the tools. The contrast is profound: the dark, organic density of the fossilised stone dialogues with the machined and polished metal structure, creating a balance between raw nature and the artist’s hand.
The Vision: As a lighting sculpture, Pegasi transforms the atmosphere. When illuminated, it reveals the inner depths of the fossilised wood and the facets of the alloy, serving as a beacon of history and sophisticated design within any interior.
