The Abyssal Treasure
Pesca Felice (“Happy Catch”) is a celebration of fortune and discovery. Like a fisherman’s net bringing up hidden treasures from the depths, this coffee table reveals a rare alliance of engraved metals and precious gems, embedded within an ancestral mineral matrix.
The Concept: The core idea is that of an unsuspected universe revealed within the stone. Pesca Felice evokes the joy of discovery—like finding a precious vein or a fragment of the cosmos captured in rock. It is an invitation to travel, a piece that transforms furniture into a narrative of geological and artistic exploration.
The Materials: The tabletop is crafted from starred metamorphic shale stone, its black depth illuminated by inlays of engraved aquatinted maillechort. The unique character of this work lies in the addition of Eilat Stones, historically known as King Solomon’s Stones. This natural blend of copper, malachite, and azurite provides intense blue and green hues, reminiscent of the treasures extracted from the ancient mines of the Red Sea.
The Craftsmanship: This piece demands total mastery of multi-material inlay. Emmanuel Jonckers hand-fits each fragment of Eilat Stone and each piece of maillechort with surgical precision. The aquatint etching on the metal creates organic reliefs that seem to echo the natural patterns of the stone, creating a seamless fusion between artifice and nature.
The Vision: Pesca Felice is far more than a coffee table; it is a modern cabinet of curiosities. Its vibrant colours and complex textures make it a standout piece for any interior seeking to combine telluric power with precious refinement.
