The Aquatic Flight

The Mareva coffee table set is a luminous landscape that captures the interplay between solar warmth and lunar clarity. Composed as a modular ensemble, it represents a versatile vision of functional art where each piece acts as a fragment of a larger, moving ecosystem.

The Concept : Mareva is deeply rooted in the aquatic realm. The design is inspired by the majestic silhouette and fluid motion of the Manta Ray, translating its ethereal “flight” through the ocean into a metallic language. The name itself evokes a sense of water and movement, reflecting how light ripples across a surface that seems to glide through space.

The Materials : This set is crafted from a prestigious combination of engraved aquatinted Bronze and Maillechort. The golden radiance of the Bronze provides a powerful, solar foundation, while the mysterious and silvery glow of the Maillechort adds a nocturnal, aquatic depth, mimicking the shimmering reflections of light on a sea surface.

The Craftsmanship : Each component is a masterpiece of hand-etched detail. Emmanuel Jonckers utilizes the aquatint technique to translate the organic anatomy and sweeping curves of the Manta Ray onto the metal. The manual precision required to align these “biological” textures across multiple pieces ensures that the work retains a perfect, flowing harmony, whether the tables are grouped or separated.

The Vision : Designed as a large set of coffee tables, Mareva is an invitation to interaction. It brings a sophisticated and magnetic presence to large living spaces, offering a sculptural tribute to one of the ocean’s most graceful creatures.
