The Balance of Worlds

The Libra coffee table is a work created under the sign of balance and harmony. It explores the delicate tension between the dark mass of stone and the shimmering clarity of metal, resulting in a piece that feels both grounded and ethereal.

The Concept: Inspired by the Libra constellation, this piece symbolises measurement and duality. The core idea is to foster a dialogue between two opposing forces: the terrestrial density of shale and the luminous fluidity of maillechort. The table becomes a mineral horizon where lines of light structure the space in a poetic manner.

The Materials: The tabletop is crafted from starred metamorphic shale stone. This intense black stone, naturally flecked with bright inclusions, evokes a clear night sky. It hosts inlays of engraved aquatinted maillechort, whose silvery brilliance provides a precious and contemporary punctuation to the surface.

The Craftsmanship: Each inlay is a feat of high precision, where the metal is fitted within the rock to the nearest millimetre. Emmanuel Jonckers uses his signature etching technique to give the maillechort a vibrating texture. These metallic reliefs appear to emerge from the stone, creating a tactile dialogue between the grain of the shale and the finesse of the worked metal.
