The Silent Ballet
At the intersection of kinetic art and precious metallurgy, Interludes unfolds as a triptych in perpetual motion. This wall relief captures the essence of a ballet where silhouettes dissolve into an abstract rhythm of lines and light. Through a masterful play of hand-etched Brass and Maillechort, Emmanuel Jonckers creates a living topography—a series of suspended moments where the density of metal becomes as fluid as a gesture in space.
The Materials: This monumental triptych is a composition of copper alloys. The radiant warmth of Brass provides a solar counterpoint to the silver depths of Maillechort. The base is intensely worked, creating a high-relief effect where the polished surfaces seem to emerge from a sea of thousands of meticulously engraved furrows.
The Symbolism: The piece symbolizes the universal rhythm of life and the beauty of human form when it returns to its abstract roots. The three panels act as “interludes”—sequential stages of a single movement—representing the interconnectedness of energy and the grace of a body in flux.
The Heritage: Drawing from the grand tradition of decorative wall panels, this work reinterprets the bas-relief through the “Metamorphic Metal” lens. It is a tribute to the patient hand that, through ancestral engraving techniques, manages to give metal the lightness of a silken veil or the vibration of a musical note.
The Vision: The intention is to transform the wall into a dynamic canvas of light. Interludes is designed to capture every variation of the surrounding atmosphere, offering a different visual melody at every hour of the day, inviting the observer to a silent contemplation of movement and time.
Table is composed of three individual parts that can be placed and moved as desired.
