The Spirit of the Grove

The Giane Doo is a sophisticated evolution of the Giane collection. While it retains the mystical soul of the Sardinian forest fables, this piece explores a more ethereal silhouette, where the metal takes flight around the memory of the wood.

The Concept: Giane Doo represents the “shadow” or the “spirit” of the tree. The name itself suggests a dual nature—a dialogue between the physical presence of the wood and the artistic extrapolation of its form. It is a functional sculpture designed to bring a sense of weightless elegance to a space.

The Materials: This unique piece features a meticulously selected slice of purple beech trunk, known for its deep tones and irregular, fantastic contours. The wood is encased and extended by engraved aquatinted maillechort , creating a seamless fusion between the biological specimen and the handcrafted alloy.

The Craftsmanship: In the Giane Doo series, the metalwork acts as a “second skin.” Emmanuel Jonckers uses the natural void and the external lines of the trunk as a starting point for his engravings. The result is a surface that appears to grow organically from the wood, shimmering with the complex patterns of his signature aquatint technique.

The Vision: Lighter in its visual impact than the original Giane, the Giane Doo coffee table is a masterpiece of balance. It celebrates the “fantastic” appearance of nature, elevated by human chemistry and artistic intuition.
