The Starred Duality
The Gemini-mi pedestal table is a work that celebrates the encounter between the infinitely large and the infinitely small. Its name evokes duality and the constant dialogue between two elementary forces: the millenary density of stone and the forged brilliance of metal.
The Concept: Gemini-mi is designed as a fragment of the universe. The core idea is to reveal a complex metallic structure within a stone block carved like a pebble polished by time. It is a piece of connection that invites contemplation of geological cycles and stellar diagrams.
The Materials: The top is crafted from starred metamorphic shale stone, extracted from the densest veins of Belgian quarries. This midnight-blue stone is sprinkled with natural pyrite stars and tiny copper geodes. At its heart, it hosts inlays of engraved aquatinted bronze, whose organic warmth resonates with the metallic flashes of the rock.
The Craftsmanship: Emmanuel Jonckers acts upon the material as a “time-maker”. He reshapes the blocks to give them a round, sensual form that is soft to the touch, contrasting with the shale’s original jagged nature. The engraving on the bronze represents a “structured anarchy,” an open door to both the organic and the mineral.
The Vision: Ideal as a ceremonial pedestal or side table, Gemini-mi commands attention through its simultaneously grounded and vibrant presence. It is a functional sculpture that reconciles materials shaped by nature with those crafted by human chemistry.
