The Heart of Fire

The Scorpio table is a journey to the very core of matter. It embodies the encounter between the millenary rigidity of stone and the vibrant energy of metal, revealing a hidden and unexpected universe nestled within the elements.

The Concept: Inspired by the fire Scorpion of Greek mythology—sent by Artemis to challenge the hunter Orion—this piece symbolises a subterranean and impetuous force. The idea is to suggest that beneath the austere surface of the rock lies a treasure of complex, luminous structures, like a vein of fire discovered within a geological rift.

The Materials: This work features a top of starred metamorphic shale stone. This deep black stone serves as a mineral canvas for inlays of engraved aquatinted bronze. The bronze provides a solar warmth that contrasts beautifully with the nocturnal coolness of the shale.

The Craftsmanship: The inlay work requires extreme precision to ensure the metal and stone become one. Emmanuel Jonckers uses his signature etching technique to give the bronze an organic, structured relief. The metal appears to “grow” within the stone, creating a seamless fusion between the mineral realm and the art of fire.

The Vision: Versatile by design, the Scorpio can be configured as either a dining table or a coffee table depending on the choice of legs. It is a piece of immense character that imposes its presence through its contrast of textures and mythological narrative, offering a powerful and mystic anchor to any living space.
