A Constellation of Matter
The Cassiopea table is an ode to the night sky and the geometry of the stars. Named after one of the most iconic constellations of the Northern Hemisphere, this piece transforms metal into a celestial map where light appears trapped within the material itself.
The Concept: Cassiopea explores the relationship between the order of the cosmos and the chaos of creation. Much like the constellation traces a distinctive “W” across the sky, this table uses lines of force and points of light to structure the space. It is a contemplative work, designed to bring the serenity of the great stellar expanses into the heart of the home.
The Materials: This creation is crafted from engraved aquatinted maillechort. The cool, lunar radiance of this alloy is the perfect medium to evoke the celestial vault. Under shifting light, the surface seems to come alive with a shimmer of stars, transitioning from deep silver-grey to crystalline reflections.
The Craftsmanship: Emmanuel Jonckers treats the surface like a nebula. Through his signature aquatint technique, he creates cloud-like textures intersected by precise engravings that recall the trajectories of stars. Every detail is hand-etched, turning the table into a unique piece where the artist’s hand becomes the architect of a miniature universe.
The Vision: The Cassiopea table acts as a powerful visual anchor. Its sleek form and complex texture make it a timeless piece of design—a “Functional Art” masterpiece that invites daydreaming and the exploration of the infinite.
